Rorschach 02 is a plaster relief developed from archaic mineral plasters, exploring surface depth and symmetry through layered mineral application.

About the Series

Inspired by the contortions and movements of the human body in contemporary dance under stylized lighting, the Rorschach series explores the relationship between light, surface, and abstraction. In much the same way that light transforms plaster, it can also render the human body as a shifting assembly of abstracted forms and contours.

Observing the architecture of the body - the way skin moves over bone, the sculptural tension of muscle, and the ways bodies connect and intertwine - informs the layered compositions within the work. Through symmetry, relief, and successive applications of plaster, these gestures are translated into mineral surfaces where form and movement emerge through the working of the material itself.

Peter Varga is a contemporary artist working primarily in plaster. His sculptural reliefs and architectural works explore how mineral materials operate between sculpture and surface. Varga approaches plaster as a finished sculptural material rather than a supporting medium.
